Breaking News

Hello 2016!!!

I am excited to begin this journey again.  Since my last active stint on this site, I have held 3 different positions-with 3 different companies, eaten an awesomely impressive array of delicious foods, attended  some amazing events, tried and failed to write, blog, and/or podcast consistently and worked hard to try and figure out my purpose.

That being said, as my partner and I planned this year’s weekend of events, we suffered multitude of disappointments.  Artists we supported vehemently over the years chose not to perform.  We had issues getting graphics, team work issues, band issues, you name it.  And for a moment, (several moments actually)  we almost gave in. We actually had conversation about not having DreamFest this year, our 5th year, because we were concentrating on the negative.
See while there were 3 or 4 acts that decided to pass on our event, we literally have over 35 artists participating in DreamFest.   Had some scheduling conflicts with our second band, but the first band stepped up to fill in the gap, had trouble with the graphics which put us behind on promotion but we also brought on a POWERHOUSE of a PR rep who still managed to get us some great PR with just her press release and network.

Yesterday, I saw a meme floating around on facebook about lack of unity among Memphis Rappers vs Atlanta Rappers.  I was immediately appalled,  “ The only difference between Memphis and Atlanta is the city government” I thought. I was all on a tangent.. going “in” on how great Memphis is, in spite of its struggles.  It wasn’t until I got home that I realized… I had done the same thing.  I literally let a small percentage of negativity almost prevent me from doing something I love to do!   I overlooked all of the artists who were instantly down for the few that weren’t. I let a few obstacles almost prevent me from celebrating 5 years of showing that our city really will unite and support Memphis based talent!
I realize now that perspective is one of the most important elements of success.  We get so caught up in all of the things that go wrong (and there are a lot) but while we must acknowledge and adjust to those things, we cannot let those things prevent us from doing  our work, from pursuing our passions.
That is why this year, I will try again to write and podcast. I will figure out my purpose and continue to pursue my dreams
I cant wait to start back discussing great food and drinks and promoting our great city. That doesn’t mean overlooking the issues, behaviors and mindsets that currently plague our city. Anyway. I hope you will join me on this journey!!!
Aww (SHAMELESS PLUG)  Come out to DreamFest 5 January 15th-17th!
