Out and About Memphis- Jan. 20th

Out and about in Memphis…

So previously I mentioned I didn’t want to do traditional reviews.  I spend so much of my time in real life dealing with the “problems” of small business, I don’t want to have to write about it.  Instead I would rather just discuss the things I have enjoyed while out and about in Memphis.  While I won’t shy away from the negatives, I do plan to be very intentional about highlighting the good stuff, be it food, events, people or ideas!  I plan to post every other Monday… I know this is Wednesday.  But after this.  Every other Monday.

So What have I come across while Out and about in Memphis?
Of course this past weekend, it was all about #DreamFest5.   Admittedly, as one of the weekend’s producers, I am a little biased, but the weekend was amazing.  It kicked off with the annual concert that features up and coming artists on the Memphis music scene.
The Saturday night event was a celebration of the past 5 years and included previously featured artists. It was also a birthday celebration for the founder of CLE Events, Catherine Evans.
Sunday was the finale and with it came the first ever CLE produced Rella Remixed, a hip hop interpretation of Cinderella.  It featured production from IMAKEMADBEATS, dance and choreography from SubRoy Dance Studios and Terran Noir, set design and artistic direction by Kenneth Wayne Alexander, II and the ballroom costumes were provided by Najee Strickland.
#DreamFest5 weekend ended with what has now become a tradition, the Artistik Lounge Dreamfest edition. The feature was guitarist T.O. Crivens  and he brought the soul and funk to the lounge!
It was truly a phenomenal weekend!

OEM Online provided great footage of the first two events.  Check them out at http://www.oemonline.net/dreamfest5-day1/

On the food front, Mardi Gras on Cleveland has been getting a whole lot of my coins recently.
The etouffee stuffed po-boy is the shit.  I could state it more eloquently but.. look.  It’s good as hell. The sauce is creamy with just the right amount of spice, the crawfish is cooked perfectly and not at all rubbery and the gatdamn bread manages to stay firm under the weight of the sauce. I think I had a dream about it the other day.  I need yall to get it in your life.
Chef Fran over at the HM Dessert Lounge on Madison has gotten me hooked on the banana pudding cake and cinnamon roll peach cobbler.
You heard right.  A Peach cobbler. With a cinnamon roll crust.  Everything you just thought... add some mo’ cinnamon and sugar.  You might be almost close to what it is in real life.   Just trust me, and go and get that thang today!!

On the “really cool shit going on in the city” front. Assembled takes place January 22, 2016 at Arts Memphis.  From what I understand. The event brings together 13 artists who work together to complete 7 works of art over the course of 1 month.
On that same day there is also a Drummers Clinic at Visible Music College that will feature 3 of the best drummers in the city of Memphis!

On the music front, here's what I am listening to locally…
