It Gets Great Later: Album Review- Virghost Memphiasco

Greater starts off with an beacon reverb. Tangled amongst its translucent feel it holds heavy on its presence. A speech by Fred Hammond accompanies the dark tone production. The words that show vividly loud is “I am back now”. A mesmerizing start as the beat kicks in strong and conquering. Ghost voice is crystal clear and leads you into an immediate head nod. The production and rap dances in perfect harmony. A hypnotic flow, Ghost is entertaining through out the piece. His lyrics are both personal and metaphorical granting you an amazing introduction. His soul speaks beyond as his love for hiphop shows in the strength of his voice and dedication in each lyric. This is the official album review of:It gets greater later

"Nashvillain" the next record on the album. The production starts in reverse and sounds distorted. The beat has strong ticks and a heavy mid. The pattern is simple yet hypnotic. Virghost verse start with strong clarity and relives his move from his hometown Memphis. The verse has a few planted metaphors, but this is mostly about the lyrics. Ghost flow structure remain similar through out the record. Nothing shines with the radiation of the sun but everything still feel amazingly polished. The next record "Searching....." starts off with Ghost speaking about his start into the artistry of Spoken-word. Accompanied by the vast contrast of comforting crooning and a grudging rap loop. The production has this mesmerizing maze of unfinished notes. Lowered ambition it remains similar throughout the piece. The lyrics of his verse is saturated in truth. He vividly paints the picture of how some of his fans didn't want him to make the switch. Following his heart Ghost blatantly tells everyone he will do it his way. The delivery is slow and slightly drags. You really must be into the lyrics to avoid the apparent dry spells. Falling short of his complexity in the flow department the song drags throughout. The 2nd verse is actually spoken word. Which fits easier on the tempo of the record. His talent shows as a poet in very regal form. The record as a whole just didn't have the impact we really wanted to feel. "Nowadays" production starts off with overlapping drums and slaps hitting in the same pocket. As soon as the melody constructs your'e instantly granted that feel good vibe. A screwed singing sample lives throughout the production. Ghost verse is instantly gratifying and gives you an presumptuous nod. His lyrics are similar to his common topics. The chorus fits in the pocket but never stand high enough above the verse. Not much melody in his approach but feels suitably placed. This song is amazing and deliver you the "feels" on a silver platter. Skip down to "Nevermind"  as the production places in 1980's-esque sample to start. The tempo is exciting and grants room for a amplified delivery. The track is tailored with a distorted sample, which seems to be a signature for Ghost or his producer. Ghost verse is refreshingly ambitious and birthed a 1999's scenic of hiphop. His flow pattern is sporadic and perfectly delivered. Metaphors are short lived in this piece as what shines is his lyricism and scenery. The chorus falls into the category of too simplistic. Without enough change in the production it leaves little room for ghost to explore a total different melody from the verse. The chorus never held its rightful spot as the most exciting placement on the record. The production, verse and flow scheme was amazing but the chorus slightly lagged behind this prodigious single. The next record "The Grind 2" brings a more southern cadence to the album. The beat is heavy and littered with an synthetic piano. The chorus starts off first. Ghost comes in with "Ive been grinding all day" exactly when the beat breaks it all hits you with so much conviction. The chorus is simple having a nice bounce to it. Its accompanied by:Yung Phil singing which provides more growth and complexity.  Something we have missed from Ghost choruses was complexity. Ghost once again delivers his verse to perfection. Delivery often switches, metaphorical touches and a few possible subliminal shots to fellow MC's. His features: BC comes in on the 2nd verse. His vocal tone and structure is attractively unique. He carries a West coast feel as it perfectly fits into the record. His verse is structured and very panoramic. Adding a dynamic feel to the work. Another Mc featured is: Truth Clipsy yet another well placed feature. He grants more growth to the topic. He explains the grind and how artist often make the mistake to choose one over the other. His rap performance was in pocket and guided this song into home base. “Wolves and Lions” is the next record on the album. The production once again follows the similar format as previous. Strong kicks and sharp ticks and faintly echoed singing. The production is still very well done and manages to give off a different atmosphere even with identical structure. The chorus is four bar structured and don't pack much impact. The verse from Ghost is passionately vivid. A strength and weakness, Ghost often coast close to his emotional side of lyricism. His feature: ArchAngel delivers a great performance. His vocals are strong and dynamic. His lyricism is clear and his topic choice match. He impressively breathes a new life into the record. After his verse another feature: Dough comes in after the chorus. Although his vocals aren't as strong as Ghost or ARCH. His delivery is refreshing and gives a breakdown mid-verse that elevates the song even more. Ending the record into a echoing reverb amongst an empty back drop. Drop down to “Why” and brace yourself for the impact. The production once again is similar. A hypnotic mesmerizing plague that seems to rot out your senses. Captured perfectly is the vibe in this production. A guitar is perfectly placed in the far crevices of the instrumentation. It slightly touches you just enough to be startled but allow your ears reach for more. Virghost verse comes in with a mild tempo verse scheme. Immediately you realize these lyrics just seem too personal to just be a story. Seems to be esteemed around a wife or ex. The lyrics are deep and I literally walked amongst the assembly line with ghost. No artist has ever painted a pictured so vividly that I have personally reviewed. This song goes beyond artful. Virghost is simply so vulnerable its almost scary. The chorus is patient and slow toned. Why echoes amongst his pain and leaves us speechless. Why she doesn't care hits you hard as you feel the pain for the artist. The musicality and story telling is so well done that ghost created a golden record from his pain. It ends with his kids on the phone calling his ex. The better times of Ghost pass relationship as you are left with a deep pain for the situation. This song is what makes hiphop such a special genre. This is what makes Virghost a step above many artist. The next song “The Darkness” comes in poetically silent. The production dives into the depths of the albums soul. The production is heavy and bass in thick and misty. The verse of Virghost seems to be inspired after the conception of Why. He moves on into new loves new adventures. His flow pattern is at a medium. The chorus really takes the gold here. Performed by Angelique Morris her voice is to say angelic. Sticky reverb and echo accompanies her vocals. You gravitate towards her passion and cadence. Ghost 2^nd verse becomes more vibrant with his encounters. He seems to struggle, leaving one love and finding another. A poetic masterpiece of moving on when it seems somewhat impossible. The next record ”Chattanoga” has a unique sound to its production. Its sparks a ancient era of southern hiphop. The sample in this production is very faint with little exposure. Virghost rap delivery is mid-tempo with a mild bounce. The song is once again carried by his story telling and personal adverse. The chorus is unique and grants the album a welcomed sound. Performed by: Idi of Hippy Soul his voice is sluggish and uninspired. Not uninspired in a bad way but in a Snoop dog I  can do this effortlessly way. Its amazing and brings a high character to the piece. “Later” brings the light to this project. It rewrites all of it for you and clears up what could of been a blurry image. The production is heavy and honestly hits you in the heart. This record played close to my soul. I finally started to feel all the pain Virghost put into the album. Ghost talks about his change and how is life is different now. "Later" turns this album into a episode and paints the full picture of it. His common mid-temp flow Ghost closes the door on what has been an amazing piece of art. This album captures the fears, tears and pains of ghost. More than break up and heart aches he delivers the pain of change. Ghost spirit is soaked inside the album and its more than just a single or if the song is structured correctly. We found ourselves trying to see how to judge an album of such. Where do we take off points or even add? One thing we knew was this project was one of deepest experiences when it comes to honesty we've ever listened to. GreaterLater- had issues steering away from the pain. We never got a chance to feel good about the music. The vibe through it all stayed too dark. Turning into a story of pain without a turn around. We wanted to see Virghost win. We wanted to have more songs where the production didn't have so many darker poised notes. Virghost undoubtedly is a special artist that can rap in the same merit as the legends. His personal life story took this album to another level. It often felt his pain was tied the albums feet not letting it flourish in full stride. I need a song, something to put on when I didn't really want to travel through the darkness. We all agreed that if this album would of had more experiences this could of been a classic. This album is great now. And if Virghost gets greater later he may become one of the best MCs to do it.
