A Northwest Missouri State University student and another teen were arrested for allegedly threatening to "shoot any black people" on campus in a post on the social media app Yik Yak. This comes amid widespread reports of black University of Missouri students receiving racist threats in person and on social media, leading the school to go on lockdown.
After one student was arrested at the University of Missouri for making threats, Connor B. Stottlemyre and Hunter Park, both 19, were arrested for their violent online messages. Stottlemyre, a freshman at Northwest Missouri State University, was arrested in his dorm after he allegedly sent out a message reading, "I'm gonna shoot any black people tomorrow, so be ready."
Hunter, a Missouri University of Science and Technology student, was arrested near the University of Missouri earlier in the morning after sending out a similar message where he threatened to "shoot every black person I see."
Mizzou school officials released a statement following the arrests, "These threats are reprehensible. The process of making our campus as inclusive as it must be will not be easy. We have difficult conversations ahead, and we must all dedicate ourselves to learning together."
