For the love of God, it’s just a sandwich

We know that Eater covered the rollout and hoopla around the Popeyes Chicken Sandwich as much as the rest of food media, but unfortunately, it seems pertinent to remind everyone that there is no sandwich so delicious or important that one needs to resort to violence to obtain it. Houston police are on the lookout for a group of people who rushed a Popeyes after being told at the drive-thru window that they were out of the popular sandwich. At least one person had a gun.

In a statement to the Houston Chronicle, Houston police Lt. Larry Crowson said that “When the manager told [the customers that the restaurant was] out, one of the males became upset and pulled a pistol and demanded a chicken sandwich. The manager again informed them they were out of sandwiches.” Employees were able to lock the doors before the attackers got in. The assailants, which included three men and two women, left a baby in the car while charging the Popeyes.

Though perhaps the most harrowing, this is not the only instance of extreme entitlement around the fried chicken sandwich; a Tennessee man is suing Popeyes for “false advertising” since they haven’t restocked yet.
