Black Panther Breaks U.K. Box Office Record for Tickets Sold in One Day

The Marvel Cinematic Universe was started ten years ago with Iron Man, and it doesn't look like the interwoven movie madness is going away anytime soon. Although Marvel will continue to crank out dozens of new superhero movies over the next decade, the studio is in need of a new leader for their franchise. Robert Downey Jr.'s contract will expire after the sequel to Avengers Infinity War hit theaters next year, and Chris Evans has expressed his intention to put down the shield when his contract expires at the same time.
It seems as if Marvel will have to look no further than Black Panther for a new protagonist to steer the next decade of their films. Black Panther is already expected to crush the box-office here in America. The Ryan Coogler directed film is projected to gross $165 million during its opening weekend, knocking Deadpool out of the top spot for the most successful February movie opening in America ever. Now, Black Panther is projected to destroy overseas markets as well.
The Guardian reported that Black Panther brought in £2.67 million (about $3.74 million) in the United Kingdom on its opening day of February 13. That gives Marvel Studios' 18th film the highest-grossing single day movie haul at the UK box office this year.
