BEYOND AMBITION
Tell us who is Mac Tree?
Mac Tree is a up and coming rap artist from Grenada Ms. that grew up in poverty and has really lived the Street Life... He was raised in a single parent home by his mother, who used drugs, but would work, hustle, and do whatever it took to make ends meet... Even though he excelled in school, particularly math, he gravitated to the streets... At the age of 15, he jumped off the porch, started rapping, selling drugs, and getting in trouble with the law...
So you grew up in Mississippi, to a single parent home a mother who sold drugs and lived the street life
How was that?
It was crazy... My mom's boyfriend was a local drug dealer and he introduced me to the drug game...
A major inspiration, your aunt was killed tragically. What happen and how did that change you?
My aunt was like my mother, sister, and best friend all rolled in one... She was married for over 30 yrs and her husband was like a father to me.. In 2013 while I was incarcerated, her husband killed her and then killed himself. I still don't know how to feel about it... As bad as I wanna hate him, I can't... He raised me. Anyway, My aunt always wanted me to rap and when I found out what happened, I promised I would put my all into my music... She is my motivation...
You had a job when you was 18. What happen to make you say you would never work for anyone else again? Where you able to hold up to that promise?
I was fired for missing Martin Luther King's Day & I promised myself I would never work again. I worked a job for 2 months
Was there ever a moment you thought to give up selling drugs?
Yes... I never wanted to sell drugs and I always wanted to get out the game.
Only been out of jail for one year. What are somethings you've accomplished in that time? And have adapting back to "society" been a tough process.
Well, I been taking baby steps... I dropped a song with Moneybagg Yo, called #Say The Word, did the video, and put it on the radio... I dropped a 5 song E.p. called #The Sample which is on Datpiff.com & Spinrilla and I'm giving away 20,000 CDs... I started my own label, #M.O.B ent. That stands for MindOfaBillionare entertainment and publishing co. I also started my own clothing line #MindOfaBillionare
When was the moment you knew hiphop was what you wanted to do?
I always wanted to rap... I just couldn't stay out ta trouble... Lol...
How did you get the name Mac Tree?
Tree is a nickname given to me by my grandma when I was a baby... She say whenever I would cry, she would sit me in my chair next to her window and I would look out at the trees and laugh.... Lol.. I ain't never told nobody that... Everybody always thought they call me Tree b/c I smoke so much and women tend to say they call me Tree b/c of other reasons... Lol... Mac is a name I earned growing up. It stands for making a change..
How do you like your studio sessions? Describe the perfect vibe for you.
I'm usually very serious in the studio.. Like a Army Sargent or something... Lol... No play play...
For the people who haven't listened to your music before describe to them your style.
Everybody say I got a Texas flow but I don't think so... I just think that I got a unique voice and a way of expressing myself... Its Special and Truly a gift from God b/c Tbh: I'm not a rapper... Lol
What has been your favorite "moment" while being a rapper. Name one thing you'd hope to accomplish before your career is over.
Just the whole learning process... I think the process is the most satisfying part... & I want to make enough money to take care of my family....
You named your album "OUT THE BLUE" why is that?
I named the album Out The Blue b/c I feel like no one has ever heard of me, so when I drop it, I'm going to become a major player in the game outta nowhere!!! Like WTF???
Message you would give to your younger self? And you really want to help the youth through your music. What ways do you hope to do so?
Learn to be more patient... Stay proactive... & Follow your 1st mind... Also, I plan to speak to troubled teens and teach them that you don't have to be street to be cool.... Just be yourself...
