Cop Believed to Have Been Murdered Actually Staged Suicide

It was originally thought that Lt. Joe Gliniewicz was murdered by two unknown suspects that he was pursuing, but it was just revealed that the Gliniewicz "carefully planned" his suicide. Major Crime Task Force commander George Filenko said that extensive evidence was found, showing that the officer "behaved for years in a manner completely contrary to the image he portrayed." He added, "This staged suicide was the end result of extensive criminal acts that Gliniewicz had been committing."

It was revealed that Glineiewicz laundered thousands of dollars from the police department's youth program for seven years, and used the money on himself. The veteran officer reportedly started feeling uneasy after the department started looking into the finances of the youth program. 

Filenko added that "Gliniewicz committed the ultimate betrayal to the citizens he served and the entire law-enforcement community. Personally, this is the first time as a police officer that I'm ashamed by the actions of a member of law enforcement."
