Joshua Rutherford was once a track coach and teacher at Smyrna High School in Delaware. Now, he's facing a minimum of ten years in prison.
On Monday, 38-year-old Rutherford pleaded guilty to one count of attempted inducement of a minor. He reached a plea deal that dropped an additional charge of attempted inducement of a minor and two charges of seeking child pornography.
According to The News Journal, Rutherford, who used to moniker DoverGuy777 in online chats, started talking to a person that he believed to be the father of a 14-year-old girl. In reality, it was an investigator on the other end of the computer. During the multiple conversations, Rutherford admitted to meeting underage girls for sex in the past. He also stated that he received explicit photos from a 16-year-old girl. In addition, Rutherford requested photos of the investigator/father's daughter. Aware that she was underage, he instructed the investigator to send photos where his fictional daughter's head was cropped out for safety.
After talking for a few weeks, Rutherford agreed to meet up with the investigator/father and his daughter at a park in Dover on March 11. When he arrived, he was arrested by Delaware Child Predator Task Force.
