One day after news of the sudden death of street fighter turned mixed martial artist Kimbo Slice was confirmed, the Broward County, Fl medical examiner announced that he had been diagnosed with heart failure and was being being prepared for a transplant when his life stopped.
According to staff at Northwest Medical Center in Margate, the 42-year-old, born Kevin Ferguson, arrived seeking medical attention for severe abdominal pain, shortness of breath and nausea on Friday. He was immediately placed in intensive care once it was learned that he had a liver mass and was suffering heart failure. As the hospital made preparations to transport him to Cleveland, where he could be tended to while awaiting a donor on Monday evening, his organs gave out. According to records, he had no history of illicit drug use and trauma and foreplay were ruled out as a cause of death.
Slice was set to head a card in London vs James Thompson next month. Representatives from UFC and Bellator put out statements giving condolences to the family of the man credited with bringing mixed martial arts it's urban audience. He leaves behind a wife and six children.
