Governor Spares Death Row Inmate Right After His Last Meal
Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin gave death row inmate Richard Glossip a 37-day stay just after he was given his last meal of a Pizza Hut medium double bacon double cheese pizza, two orders of Long John Silver's fish and chips and a Wendy's Baconator burger and strawberry malt. Fallin made her decision as the state addresses its use of lethal injection for execution.
Fallin explained, "Last minute questions were raised today about Oklahoma's execution protocol and the chemicals used for lethal injection. After consulting with the attorney general and the Department of Corrections, I have issued a 37 day stay of execution while the state addresses those questions and ensures it is complying fully with the protocols approved by federal courts."
Glossip has been spared execution twice before while on death row for killing his ex-boss, Barry Van Treese. He has long claimed his innocence in the case, as Glossip says he was set up by the real killer, Justin Sneed, who is serving a life sentence for the crime.
