Guard With Ties to Bloods Charged With Plotting Attack on Inmate
Nakia Gales, a jail guard at the Vernon C. Bain Center detention center in the Bronx, is accused of plotting an attack on an inmate that mouthed off to her.
The 39-year-old allegedly has ties to the Bloods, with members of the gang referring to Gales as "one of us," according to unsealed documents obtained by the New York Daily News. Gales also has a star tattoo on her neck, which prosecutors say shows her ties to the deadly gang.
According to documents, Gales lured Gilbert Bacallo into an empty vestibule with promises that he had a package waiting on him, but instead he was locked in a room with four inmates who beat him so severely that he lost his hearing. The Department of Investigation claims Gales watched the attack from behind a glass wall.
Officer Herman Jiminian, 41, was also charged with aiding the attack and trying to cover up the incident. Both guards face up to seven years in prison on charges of assault, along with several counts of filing false documents and official misconduct.
Gales is currently being held on $25,000 bond and she is due back in court on Friday (September 18), which is also the day Jiminian will surrender to authorities.
