February 12, 2018: Missy Elliot is 46 years old – and she looks AMAZING thanks to some MINOR facial rejuvenation surgery.
The 1990s rap legend showed off her new face – which she reportedly had done before filming her Superbowl commercial.
Back in 2008, Missy was diagnosed with Graves disease, an autoimmune disease which affects the thyroid. The illness led to the “Work It” rapper taking a lengthy hiatus from the spotlight at the height of her career.
“It causes hair loss, your eyes bulge,” she told Billboard. “My blood pressure was always up from just overworking.”
She battled for years to get her condition under control, but her next battle was getting her confidence up. She was reluctant to return to the spotlight, but we’re glad that she did!
In 2015, Missy Elliott performed at the Super Bowl XLIX halftime show with Katy Perry. Elliott performed her classic “Get Ur Freak On,” “Work It,” and “Lose Control” and trended worldwide. Many of the younger audience thought that Missy was a brand new artist and celebrated her “debut” while long-time fans of hers welcomed her long-awaited return.
Her performance made history as the most-watched Super Bowl halftime show in NFL history, receiving more than 118.5 million viewers in the United States. It’s pretty much been smooth-sailing from there.
After all that he has endured healthwise, we don’t begrudge Missy a little surgical rejuvenation. Whatever it takes to keep her feeling confident, looking healthy and making great music, we’re here for!
