Denny's Staff Fired for Making Black Customers Pay Before Getting Food

Denny's Staff Fired for Making Black Customers Pay Before Getting FoodDenny’s has been caught up in a PR nightmare, as employees of a Washington location have been fired after they insisted that black customers pay for their food before eating while letting white customers eat first then pay after or on their way out.

A man named Palmer Pelham posted about the events that went down at the Denny’s via Facebook. He noted that four black men came into the empty restaurant to eat, and had to wait 10 minutes to be seated. From there, two white men come in after the four men and are immediately seated. The server then went over to the four young men and took their order. Five minutes later, she came back with the order slips and told the men they needed to pay before the cook prepared their food. Pelham said, “She says that she has had several people order food and leave without paying so her manager said she had to have them pay first.” The men allegedly asked for the manager, with the server stomping away angrily to get the manager. From there, Pelham noted that the manager wagged his finger at the employee. Since then, the employee was let go, and Denny’s issued a statement. The company said “Denny’s has a zero-tolerance for discrimination of any kind. This type of behavior is unacceptable for any reason and is clearly inconsistent with our practices and policies.”
