Man w/ Weapons & Explosives Arrested On Way to L.A. Pride Gay Festival

According to the L.A. Times, police in Santa Monica found weapons, ammunition, and possible explosives in the back of a man's car who informed them that he was en route to the L.A. Pride festival which is taking place in West Hollywood. The police received a phone call about a suspicious man and car that was located near 11th Street and Olympic Blvd. When approached by the police and asked why he was there, the man told authorities that he was waiting for a friend. From there, officers began to inspect his car and found weapons, ammunition, and an ingredient that could potentially be used to create a pipe bomb.
Despite the scare, city officials have confirmed that the gay pride parade is still taking place, saying they are "taking the appropriate safety precautions." Officials noted that the parade will go on with extra added security in attendance, as well as undercover officers watching in the crowd.
This incident comes less than a day after an attack on an Orlando LGBTQ nightclub that resulted in 50 deaths and 53 injuries carried out by a single gunman.
