Gay men are banned from giving blood in Orlando

Orlando Blood Centers Still Have a Ban on Gay Men Donating Bloodmass shooting at a LGBTQ nightclub in Orlando took place last night, and has been making the news as one of the largest mass shootings in the history of America. Over 50 people were killed along with over 50 injuries by a single gunman. According to reports on social media, a local blood center in Orlando called OneBlood had allegedly temporarily lifted a ban on sexually active gay men donating blood after the horrendous mass shooting. OneBlood has came responded via Twitter to announce that those reports are false. OneBlood's tweet said "All FDA guidelines remain in effect for blood donation. There are false reports circulating that FDA rules were being lifted. Not true."
According to the Washington Post, along with not lifting the ban on donations from gay men, OneBlood's system has not been updated with the FDA's revisions to its guidelines. According to OneBlood spokesman Pat Michaels, OneBlood's system update with correct information will occur this year.
