Straight Outta Compton Continues To Dominate Box Office
"Straight Outta Compton" has done it again, topping the box office for the second time, Variety reports.
The N.W.A biopic brought in $26.8 million this weekend, bringing its domestic total to $111.5 million. The film was budgeted at $29 million. Fans have expressed positive thoughts on the film, while some critics slammed director F. Gary Gray from downplaying the group's misogynistic views of women. Others also called out Dr. Dre for not addressing his assault involving journalist Dee Barnes and the domestic abuse drama with his ex-fiancée, Michel'le.
Dre released a statement to The New York Times this week, apologizing for his actions and says he's become a changed man. Apple also released a statement supporting the legendary producer.
Other films released this weekend were also R-rated, but didn't make a splash with audiences. "Sinister 2" made $10.6 million, video game film "Hitman: Agent 47," by Fox made $8.2 million and the stoner-action comedy "American Ultra" made $5.5 million despite big stars Jesse Eisberg and Kristen Stewart attached to it.
