Iron Mic Coalition 3rd Edition:Exclusive Album Review

Iron Mic Coalition 3rd Edition: Constant Heat
The name “Iron Mic” resonates behind its reverb. The instrumental is strong, reminiscent to the hip-hop of the late 90’s. Crushed snares, distorted samples queue in correlation to its history. What can you do with the name? So much history, so much has changed since then.  IMC 3rd Edition, will it create another bright chapter in this groups Legacy. Or does this show the passing end of something Legendary?

The first song “The Drug” is head bang worthy. The verse captures you immediately. The tone is harsh, the words are strong. Verses laid in deadly delivery with witty punch lines.  Each artist proved talent in this cypher style performance. So many different styles and voice temperatures, pleasure to hear such a range. The rap style is dirty grim, leaking the 90’s golden era flow. No chorus is found this is merely an introduction to each artist. Every MC showed to rap, leaving no room for half stepping. With poise displayed their forte on flow flexible production. Fall into the next song “La La La”. A fairytale story based intro the chorus starts off simply (lalala). Creatively wrong, makes this song so right. ODB fused with Wu-tang this song is a fresh palette of hip-hop. The chorus is so free, unapologetic, none commercial and just everything hip-hop was and isn’t today. IMC displayed on this record they aren’t afraid of risk which pays off. The chorus just works, corky, fun, and almost menacing. The verses let you know this still serious business, but keep you having fun throughout. The next song “Mystikal” produced by MMILK. It’s so reminiscent to the golden era of hip-hop. Immediately your granted the uninterrupted sway that hip-hop gives its core listeners. The song kicks off passionately with group member (Jason the Hater). The chorus is infectious and fun. This song has a classic soul. Making it seem impossible to have been created in this era. This isn’t just a throwback sound. It’s relevant on this record this is who IMC is. It’s so natural, so easy the song just rocks all the way from start to finish. The scratching, frantic bravado jumps your adrenaline to max and grants you chills. This is hip-hop! Each rapper comes in and gives you different styles and stories. Everyone voice is unique and this song is perfect. The freedoms in which every artist carries this song make it flawless performance. Skip down to “Home” the production stand similar to others. By this time you become familiar with instruments, delivery and topics. Home is exactly what these sounds like. Each MC delivers a pin-point performance on production they obviously shine on. The chorus is scattered and don’t really own your attention. It just doesn’t grab your mental like the other cuts. It fails to distant itself enough from the other records and falls slightly below the rest. “In the streets” come in strong and well versed. You are captured from the start with a head nodding melodic flow. The topic is different and refreshing. The production plays in on similar grounds but still manage to stay distant. The chorus is bar driven but still has enough of a melody to support. Hold up your hands if you from the streets. The message provided is to love who you are and remember where you from. It grants a sense of righteous something that dwindled from hip-hop in its later years. Buried beneath these cadence lay conscience rappers, that doesn’t necessarily try to be.  Fall into “Dipped in Soul” a classic 70’s lace instrumental that plays heavy on the soul era. The production supported more by the flow as it coast without much strength. Then it picks up, once the first chorus hits. Soul is sung, with heavy dubs and soaked in reverb. The song picks up immediately as the M.C. after the chorus stake his claim. The most impressive and infectious chorus by far. It features: popular hip-hop group artist 8ball & MJG. The song just elevates more and more. The feature was perfectly placed and brought another spirit to the album and song. Bringing us to the conclusion of the album is the song “Track20 (represent)”.The production is done by Empee Cuts and its goose-bump worthy. The sample supports and sense of sweet to the sour of so much raw rap. The chorus is perfectly garnished making this an absolute finish. Memphop is screamed and chanted amongst the group. This record breaths the life of IMC and what they stand for. This piece is just everything you can want out of a song of this nature. The outro ends on the highest note possible leaving you feeling completely satisfied. IMC 3rd Edition is an album that truly represents for the art. It’s shown in every record every bar and every instrument of production. Every single artist brought something special to this project. Not once was it a skip able record. The production was captured flawlessly of the golden era of hip-hop. One of the most refreshing pieces of work we ever rated. Each artist has something to say and could easily be solo acts. Most of production drove familiar lanes. Verses were held long, choruses were not the highlight of the album. Topics were similar to yesteryears of hip-hop. But this album was meant to give you, just a man and a mic feel. This is the hip-hop most of us fell in love with. The non-commercial, pass the mic, no entourage, rewind it to catch the metaphors music. This album was unapologetic, and granted a sense of clarity to which who IMC is and will forever be, an unstoppable force.
