A Wales teenage girl has been sentenced to a year of community service and fined after pleading guilty to multiple charges.
According to the Daily Post, 18-year-old Zena Edwards pleaded guilty to a racially aggravated public offense, one count of possessing cocaine, and two counts of assaulting police officers. According to reports, police found Edwards drunk and unresponsive during a search warrant on an apartment on May 6.
Police said Edward became abusive towards the officers after they denied her from getting a glass of water. While attempting to handcuff her, police said Edwards spat and threatened to headbutt at them. She was taken to the hospital after officers discovered a stab wound near her back.
At the hospital, Edwards berated a black doctor who tried to treat her. “You can’t clean it; you are dirty yourself,” Edwards shouted as the doctor tried to clean the wound.
“A doctor working in hospital should not have to be subjected to such appalling behaviour.” District Judge Gwyn Jones told the teen during sentencing.
Edwards’ attorney, Andy Hutchinson said the teen had no idea how she received the wound as she was under the influence of alcohol and drugs, explaining that she sorry for her remarks to the doctor. She is not a racist, but it was a poor choice of words,’ he said
