Starbucks customer receives racist statement on Cup
Adding to Starbucks' recent woes with racially charged problems, a case of another racially-based incident has occurred at another of the coffee conglomerate's stores in a Los Angeles-area suburb where a Latino patron received more than he expected when he went to retrieve his order at the counter.
According to the Latino man, he received an order that had the slur "beaner" on the cups. The incident comes on the coattails of a Starbucks manager calling the police on two African-Americans in a Philadelphia store about a month ago.
Two weeks from the planned staff meeting for more than 8, 000 stores in the U.S. to address its recent problems with people of color, Starbucks now is faced with another case of racism perpetrated by one of its employees.
The man who identified himself as Pedro told a local affiliate of NBC that he was purchasing two drinks in La Cañada Flintridge and saw the slur written on both drinks.
Pedro says it wasn't an accident because the barista had called his name once the order was ready. Pedro declined a $50 gift card that was offered to him and called it "insulting" in trying to cover for such an offense with such a thing as a gift card. The man has a planned meeting with Starbucks officials on Thursday.
