A Pennsylvania official is facing calls for his resignation, after he was discovered to have recently posted several racist Facebook memes. Upon viewing the derogatory nature of the content in question, numerous members of the local York County government requested that Charles Wasko step down as Mayor of West York. One particular photograph likens President Obama and the First Family to a bunch of monkeys, while another encourages that the President ought to be lynched. A third post suggests that White people work so that the government can give Black people welfare.

Thompson is receiving the support of several law makers, including councilman Brian Wilson and council president, Shawn Mauck, who called the posts "disgusting." In a statement issued to the press, Thompson rallied for more officials to speak out against Wasko, writing, “We call upon them, other council members and the West York community to take a stand against the mayor’s actions that are based on racial bias and stereotypes and that exceed any protections of political speech. Now that York NAACP has been made aware, we will be seeking to take action, because his obvious bias against black people has an effect on all his constituents, which he seems to forget includes black people.”
Mauck has said that while the borough council does not have the authority to remove a mayor from office, members are planning on drafting a censure to condemn him. Police department chief, Matthew Millsaps has joined politicians in rebuking Wasko, stating, “This in no way reflects the ideology or beliefs of this department.”
