Cops admit to falsifying Sandra Bland jail logs

After one former cop was charged in the death of 28-year-old Sandra Bland's death, a former Texas jail guard named Rafael Zuniga has recently come out saying that he falsified log entries to show that he checked on Sandra Bland an hour before her death in a prison cell. The information came from the Bland family's lawyer, who is representing the family in a wrongful death suit against Waller County and 12 specific employees. According to the Houston Chronicle, a source told them that special prosecutors on the Sandra Bland case had known about the falsified logs, but the grand jury still failed to indict anyone.

Despite what Zuniga said in his testimony, Waller County has shot back saying that is not what his statement meant at all. Lawyer Larry Simmons said "Numerous depositions have been taken in the case involving dozens of hours of testimony. It is a gross miscarriage of justice and a misrepresentation for any party to cherry-pick or mischaracterize a small portion of that statement, and take it out of context."

None of the jail officials involved in the Sandra Bland case were indicted, but the state trooper who made the arrest is facing a misdemeanor perjury charge.
