50 Cent found himself in hot water after inciting outrage for a video showing the rapper making fun of a teen and claiming he was on drugs. However, the teen turned out to be autistic. In the footage, 50 Cent is at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport approaching a janitor, later identified as 19-year old Andrew Farrell.
Farrell, whose father told the Daily News he is slightly autistic and suffers from social anxiety and hearing impairment, shook his head and refused to answer when the rapper asked his name and continued to follow him with the camera. When the teen, who said he didn’t recognize the rapper, didn’t say anything, 50 Cent accused him of being "high as a motherf***er" and said his pupils were "dilated and everything."
The Kentucky teen said the incident made him “mad and angry.”
"I want him to apologize to him more than anything and say that he was wrong,” his mother, Amanda Kramer, told Cincinnati.com.
50 Cent issued that apology on Tuesday evening.
"While the incident at the airport resulted from an unfortunate misunderstanding, I am truly sorry for offending the young man,” he said in a statement to the Daily News.
“It was certainly not my intent to insult him or the disability community, which is a source of great strength in America. I have apologized personally to him and his family."
Though the original Instagram and Twitter clips were deleted, the footage was reposted to YouTube, where it garnered more than 1.5 million hits by Tuesday evening and has continued to go viral on social media.
