Out and About Memphis 2-9-2015

So I’ve been working hard as hell due to the end of open enrollment for the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) and I'm,

still recuperating from DreamFest5.  And I be bullshittin.  That’s just the truth lol anyway here we go…
Robata is open for lunch!  Im from the hood so I have a special love for Ramen noodles.  Well this aint nothing like that lol. ( though if you order them thin and add extra noodles you can get a little closer) but on a cold day it hits the spot as an untraditional alternative to soup.  I typically order mine in chicken broth, with spinach, no pork.   I can take or leave the boiled egg that’s included..  warm, filling and right at 10 bucks, its one of my favorite lunch junts right now although an extra packet of seasoning wouldn’t hurt.. but I guess not getting hypertension is worth the lack of saltiness.. and it still plenty flavorful.
Southern Hands has opened on Austin Peay near Don Don’s.   Meatloaf. Mac and Cheese. Sweet potatoes.  No  its not healthy, and yes  that’s a shitload of starch.  They have other options.  This is what I had and I have zero regrets..  The Winchester location has my heart.. but this is closer and it was delicious. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Southern-Hands-Restraurant/213994838753682?fref=ts
Filberto’s and Veli’s wings on Covington pike.  You can get hot wings and tacos.. in a drive thru. IN one spot.   First of all.   That’s enough right there.  The wings are, for lack of a better word, FI!  I can do without the guacamole on the tacos. And I added extra cheese to my carne asada fries.   But trust me, those honey hot wings are worth the drive.   https://www.facebook.com/search/local/1431540157163099

What am I listening too:  Crisis 901 has released a joint project with Kingpin the composer titled : Black Sun symphony.  It’s a well done project and my favorite.. “Strut”  is an infectious song that  makes you do just what the title says.  https://soundcloud.com/itsdjxman/crisis901-strut

My Guys, Hippy Soul released their Tennessee Shinobi project. I love these guys. Young, raw, and hungry; they embody what I think hip hop is.  The whole project is dope but Oh Lord is still my favorite https://soundcloud.com/hippysoul901/sets/tennessee-shinobi
Southern Ave, a local blues band, has released a new single that im digging titled “What did I do” featuring lead vocals by Tierinii Jackson.. and a trombone appearance by one of my favorite musicians.. Suavo J! http://www.southernavenueband.com/#!music/d3w6u

There are several events that have me interested.  Of course the Artistik Lounge featuring Candy Fox is at the top of my list. Feb 21st. 1555 Madison Ave  at 8pm.  10.00 admission.  Candy has amazing range and powerhouse vocals.. with a surprisingly soft touch  https://www.facebook.com/events/1005833356121519/

But Before that occurs, Overton Square is doing their take on Mardi Gras.. https://www.facebook.com/events/1521623301471738/

And because, I love a good discussion and Im all about equality on all fronts.  There is a great event scheduled at Rhodes College… Fear of a Queer Planet  Activism, Culture Wars and LGBT Human Rights  https://www.facebook.com/events/564552143720935/

Amazing  songstress, Tonya Dyson celebrates her birthday with a gift for all of us!!   Bohemian Wednesdays  a definite must attend: https://www.facebook.com/events/1706130473007116/
