Mayor apologize for wife being in KKK costume for Halloween. 'It was only to scare people'
Lahoma, OK, mayor Theresa Sharp made a tearful apology to KOCO 5 after photos of her husband and his friends dressed as KKK members to scare locals on Halloween.
Police were called to Sharp's property after a resident saw men dressed in white hooded robes standing around a bon fire, burning a large cross. The mayor was out trick-or-treating with her son when the incident took place, and she explained that her husband's actions do not reflect her own feelings.
"It was the stupidity and actions of four individuals, and it does not reflect on me or anyone else in the community."
Cary Kent Sharp, the mayor's husband, also spoke on the incident, revealing that the costumes were his cousin's idea, which he called a "very poor decision." You can check out his full statement above.
