Raymond Frolander, 18, appeared in court Thursday and pleaded not guilty to a charge of sexual battery on a child under the age of 12.

The father of the boy — who along with other family members is not being named so that the child is not identified — told The Daytona Beach News-Journal on Thursday outside the Justice Center that he ordered the HIV test via the State Attorney’s Office because he wants to know whether Frolander may have passed something on to his son.

“I don’t know which diseases transfer,” the father said outside the Justice Center after Frolander’s hearing. “I went through the State Attorney’s Office to get it done.”

Circuit Judge Leah Case issued the order on Wednesday and Frolander — who is being held in the Volusia County Branch Jail with no bail allowed — will be tested.

Frolander was beaten by the 35-year-old father the morning of July 18. The pummeling made international headlines because the father called 9-1-1 himself and told a sheriff’s dispatcher that he had just kicked and punched the man he caught abusing his son. No charges were filed against the father.

Frolander was arrested and Daytona Beach investigators said the suspect confessed to assaulting the youngster.

A Facebook page dubbed “Raymond Frolander is Innocent” shows a picture of a bleeding Frolander lying on the carpet of the father’s apartment in Daytona Beach the morning of the sexual battery and after the father had pummeled Frolander.
