Husband And Wife Commit Suicide By Standing In Front Of NY Train

A New York state couple was killed Sunday when they stood in front of an oncoming freight train.

Earl Myatt took his wife of 42 years, Mary Myatt, to the Verona tracks Sunday afternoon just after he called his son to apologize for what he was about to do, the Syracuse Post-Standard reports.

“He just said he loved me and he was sorry,” Brad Myatt, 30, told the newspaper.

They were both 59 years old.

Brad Myatt said his mother was frustrated as she struggled to recover from a brain aneurysm that left her unable to take care of herself. Earl was also having a difficult time coping with his wife’s condition.

Police found a suicide note in Earl Myatt’s car, which was close to the train tracks, WKTV reports.

“There is video that shows they stood right on the tracks waiting for it to come,” Jack Keller, public information officer for State Police Troop D, told the Utica Observer-Dispatch.

Train suicide NYEarl and Mary Myatt met when they were 17 years old. They had two sons and four grandchildren. Brad Myatt said his parents were deeply in love.

Lot of people have a hard time dealing with loved ones after they suffer a health issue.

Mary Watt suffered a brain aneurysm in January and spent a month in intensive care. While she was recovering, progress was slow — she couldn’t use the bathroom by herself and struggled to speak, Brad Myatt told the Post-Standard.

Earl Myatt remained by his wife’s side throughout all of it. He began working at 3:30 a.m. at the Mohawk Valley Community College bookstore so he could spend afternoons and evenings with Mary.

But Brad Myatt said his father was devastated and depressed.

“He was saddened by what she had been reduced to,” he told the Utica Observer-Dispatch. “He missed his wife.”

R.I.P. to these folks, we can’t imagine what they were suffering through, but we gotta ask, why the hell would you stand in front of a train?! There are plenty of other painless ways to go if you really want it.
