Artistik Lounge -Tank and The Bangas
The atmosphere is very casual. There is definitely a
“Cheers” vibe to the lounge, where regular attendees find that it’s a place that “everyone knows your name”. A hangout largely frequented by the cool and
artistic community, the “lounge”, as it is often referred; provides food, music
and an all around good time for those with a love and appreciation for music
and fellowship.
The lounge features a different artist each month. But I feel that the
most dynamic features of the lounge is the live band cipher held at the end of the night. The cypher,
featuring the house band, Chinese Connection Dub Embassy (CCDE); Is a unique take on the open mic concept. The band vibes and any artist that feels so inclined can take to the stage and join in. The magic that happens in that space; can only be described as "synergy". The lounge is produced by
Tameka Daniels of TamEd productions; in
conjunction with local multi-talented group, Artistik Approach. The members of Artistik Approach, Brandon
Tolson and Siphne Aaye, are the host and
house dj, respectively. Brandon’s
hosting style mimics the vibe and feel of the lounge, very casual and inviting,
while Siphne keeps the atmosphere and the crowd hype with eclectic, diverse mixes that keep the crowd engaged and elevated.

This month’s feature was a dynamic songstress and her
backing band from New Orleans, Louisiana, Tank and the Bangas. Catering was provided by Legacy Soul
Food.
As always, the feature was phenomenal and the addition of
Legacy Soul Food only heightened the experience (by heightened I mean launched
me Into a soul pleasing euphoria the likes
of which can only be experienced to be understood). In other words “GETCHU SOME”. I had a wrap and she put everything but God
on the inside. Rice, beans, veggies, and
ground turkey; seasoned so magically, that I closed my eyes after taking my first
bite and rainbows exploded behind my eyelids.
The Lounge is a great event and I highly recommend it. The exclusive camaraderie of the regulars can be a little off putting for new
comers but don’t worry; they will embrace you! As a regular attendee that
still sometimes feel on the outside of the “IN” ; I can vouch that
you will still have a great time.
The only other critique I have is that I would like to see
more local hip hop artists featured at this event. We rarely see hip hop in
this type of atmosphere; yet the cypher proves consistently that hip hop and
live instrumentation are a crowd
pleasing combination. With so few
opportunities for up and coming artists to perform in this fashion, I would like
to see it happen at this event a bit more frequently. However, I have also been introduced to so many new artists and genre's through the lounge.. Im going to just let them do what they do.
This month's lounge is Sunday, March 16 and features Brennan Villines.
