Martin Luther King Jr.’s Niece Speaks Out In Support Of George Zimmerman

In a surprisingly ironic response to the recent acquittal of child murderer George Zimmerman, the niece of historic Civil Rights icon Martin Luther King Jr. says she supports the verdict and rejects the notion that her late uncle would have identified with Trayvon Martin’s appearance after an altered image showing MLK wearing a hoodie began circulating around the internet.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. would no doubt speak out on the prejudice that led to the stalking and killing of unarmed teenager, Trayvon Martin. But according to his niece, Dr. Alveda King, he wouldn’t have worn a hoodie.
On the Andrea Tantaros Radio Show last week, Ms. King denounced the viral doctored image of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in a hoodie as a show of solidarity for Trayvon Martin, who wore a hoodie on the night he was shot to death.
“Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. would very likely not wear a hoodie,” she said. “I can assure you he would not wear sagging pants.”
Dr. King’s niece also went on to elaborate on her thoughts about the facts of the case supporting the outcome and the her thoughts about the media manipulating the facts of the case publicly to diminish Zimmerman’s Hispanic heritage.
Ms. King also had interesting viewpoints on the Zimmerman trial itself.
“There was a reasonable doubt in that case,” she said. “So the case went the ways of the laws of this land, but now we need to go further and look at the human heart.”
She believes the media is manipulating the case unjustifiably to fuel racial tension: “As far as trying to fit the Caucasians against African-Americans, Mr. Zimmerman is a Hispanic,” she said. “Although we are one blood, one human family, one human race, there’s a lot of deception and emotion in these things that are being spurred [...] Mr. Zimmerman is not a Caucasian. He’s not.”
