Lester Chambers Attacked for Trayvon Martin Dedication

While the protests over George Zimmerman's acquittal have been for the most part peaceful, one music legend found himself the target of violence while honoring Trayvon Martin.

R&B Hall Of Famer Lester Chambers was performing at the Hayward-Russell City Blues Festibval in Hayward, CA on Saturday. The 73-year-old singer was getting ready to perform a song from The Impressions, "People Get Ready," dedicating it to the memory of Trayvon.

According to witness accounts, it was at this point that a woman by the name of Dinalynn Andrews Potter attacked Chambers on stage. Kurt "Crowbar" Kangas, a friend of the singer, described the incident on his Facebook page.

"Lester is fine, just a bit sore and he will feel it tomorrow, the woman who attacked him was white and yelled something like “it's all your fault” before she hit him, he went down hard but was halfway caught by Barren, thank God, she was subdued by Police and taken away while the para-medics came and took him to a local Hospital where he went thru a series of cat scans, no broken bones, the only injury for now is a 8″ scratch in the kidney area of his back and it's starting to swell."

The woman was arrested and booked on suspicion of battery, but later released. Chambers reportedly suffered a bruised rib and scar on his lower back, and his family is looking to charge Potter with a hate crime.
