GameStop No Longer Taking Xbox One Pre-Orders

Shortly after Microsoft and Sony held their E3 press conferences on June 10, GameStop had pre-order SKUs in their system for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 respectively. With price points and launch windows announced, both systems were available for consumers to reserve almost immediately. Just over a week later, the pre-order SKU for Xbox One has been removed from GameStop’s system corporate-wide without explanation.
As of this morning, GameStop management has confirmed that they are not currently taking reserves on Xbox One. No official explanation has been given for the removal of the SKU at this time, and GameStop has not clarified whether or not they will re-open the reserve list at a later time. PlayStation 4 is still available for reserve, and Sony recently announced that GameStop has pledged to buy every PlayStation 4 they can get their hands on.
Sony Executives Believe PS4 Will Sell Out

Sony is feeling pretty confident these days. After a well-received showing at E3 in which they revealed that PlayStation 4 will launch at $400 ($100 cheaper than Xbox One and just $50 more expensive than a Wii U Deluxe Set), Sony raised their internal sales projections for the upcoming next generation console. The official numbers have not yet been publicly disclosed, but at least two Sony executives are confident that the demand for PlayStation 4 will exceed the available stock.
SCE CEO Andrew House recently cautioned that the demand for PlayStation 4 “may well outstrip supply,” and SCEA CEO Jack Tretton had a similar outlook today.
I certainly think, given the technology that we’re offering, given the software lineup, given the price point we have, that we’ll have consumers interested in excess of what we’re able to manufacture.
Tretton also revealed that GameStop has committed to purchase “every single PS4 unit” that Sony is willing to provide them, expressing excitement over the console’s E3 momentum. Expectations are high for Sony’s new system. Will PlayStation 4′s launch live up to the hype?
