Mother Charged With Stabbing Baby To Death

A 5-month-old baby boy was killed and his mother seriously wounded in an apparent murder-suicide attempt at a motel on North Lincoln Avenue this morning, authorities said.

The child and mother were found in the Diplomat Motel in the 5200 block of North Lincoln Avenue around 10:30 a.m., police said, citing preliminary information.

The baby was identified as Isaac Bolanos, 5 months, of an unknown address, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He was taken to Swedish Covenant Hospital and declared dead.

Police sources said it appeared the woman stabbed the baby and then herself.

A 5-month-old child was dead at the scene and a woman was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition, according to a Fire Department spokesman.

Officers found the baby in the motel room’s bathroom, the sources said.

Ernest Randall was in the motel parking lot gathering some belongings from his truck when he saw a man run from Room 122 to flag down a cop along Lincoln Avenue.

“The man came running out of the room and said, ‘She killed my baby,’ ” said Randall, 59, whose semi sat parked in the lot, which was cordoned off by yellow police tape.

A woman working at the front desk said she called 911 when the man came to her crying and screaming, “She killed my son and she’s going to kill herself too,” the employee said.

A man, woman and a baby had been staying in the room since Tuesday, she said.
