Jay Z NFL investigation
Jay Z is under investigation by the NFL as he may have violated recruitment policies during the process of taking on New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith, according to Hip Hop DX on May 26, 2013. This investigation of Jay Z comes after a picture posted on Instagram by Geno Smith that showed the two men standing together during his agent recruitment process.

The NFL will send Roc Nation Sports a letter of inquiry in hopes of gathering information about the extent of Jay Z's recruiting involvement with Smith. They want to know how involved Jay Z was in getting Smith signed. Is Jay Z emerging as a guy who doesn't like to play by the rules? Or are these rules so obsolete that not many know about them, making it easy for Jay Z to make this mistake? It was just last month that he was under another investigation when he and Beyonce vacationed in Cuba. Depending on why the couple was there, the trip may have been against the government's laws concerning travel to Cuba, as reported by USA Todayback in April.
The reason for this inquiry is that there's an existing rule in the NFL that prohibits agents from having anyone not NFLPA certified, like colleagues or friends of agents, attending recruiting meetings. Jay Z is not certified.
A statement by Smith's advisor, John Thorton, was also evidence that Jay Z was present during the recruitment meets. Thorton said, “I was in those meetings and connected with him on many levels. Thorton would later say that he was misquoted.
While the NFLPA investigation continues, it is not known what the consequences would be if Jay Z was found in violation of this rule.
