One of the greatest rappers of all time is being honored with his own sneaker. Ewing Athletics is releasing a special edition collaboration with the Rios family to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Big Pun's debut album Capital Punishment.
Ewing has partnered with Liza Rios, Big Pun’s widow, to commemorate two decades since Capital Punishment debuted in 1998. The shoe's color scheme is inspired by the album's artwork and features Big Pun logos on the tongues. Rios designed the shoe with help from rapper and fellow Ewing collaborator Cormega.
The Big Pun x Ewing 33 Hi launches this Saturday, Apr. 28 with an in-store event at BX Sports, where Pun used to shop for sneakers. Additional details surrounding the release will be announced soon.
Originally released in 1998, Capital Punishment was the only album released during Big Pun’s lifetime. Pun died tragically at just 28 years old of a heart attack in February of 2000.
The album was the first solo hip hop record by a Latin artist to go Platinum. It featured the chart topping hit "I Don't Wanna Be A Player No More," and was nominated for Best Rap Album at the 1999 Grammy Awards. In his relatively short time in hip-hop, Pun cemented his legacy as one of the best to ever do it.
