Morgan Roof, the younger sister of Dylann Roof, was arrested Wednesday for weapon and drug charges after making remarks via social media about National Walkout Day, stating that she wished the students participating would “get shot”.
According to The State, Morgan, 18, who attends A.C. Flora High School in Forest Acres, South Carolina, was arrested after officials found the teen with marijuana, pepper spray, and a knife.
Her brother, Dylann, was convicted for the murder of nine church members during bible study in a Charleston church in June 2015. He was sentenced to death after pleading guilty to nine counts of murder and three counts of attempted murder.
According to the publication, Morgan Roof railed against her classmates participating in National Walkout Day, where students across the nation walked out of class to protest gun control in the wake Douglas school shooting last month.
Taking to Snapchat, Morgan wrote the following: “Your walking out for the allowed time of 17min, they are letting you do this, nothing is gonna change what tf you think it’s going to do?”
The post continued, “I hope it’s a trap and ya’ll get shot we know it’s fixing to be nothing but black people walkin out anyway. No offense ofc buuut,”
Morgan was taken into custody after a school administrator spoke to the school resource officer. While it's unclear if Morgan’s post prompted the arrest, according to the Richland County Sheriff's Department, she was taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center and charged with simple possession of marijuana and two counts of carrying a weapon on school grounds.
