United Loses $990M After Video of Man Being Dragged Off Plane Surfaces
United Airlines has been suffering greatly since a video of a doctor named David Dao being bloodied and forcefully removed off a flight surfaced.
According to CNBC, the company's shares fell about two percent due to the viral incident. In terms of total value, United Airlines lost about $990 million USD. Multiple videos of the incident between Dao and airline security surfaced, went viral and caused the CEO of the airline to issue a statement on the matter. CEO Oscar Munoz apologized to customers on the flight for having to "re-accommodate" them due to a two-hour flight delay. Munoz then went on to deliver another apology on Tuesday, saying, "It's never too late to do the right thing. I have committed to our customers and our employee that we are going to fix what's broken so this never happens again." All of the encouraging words via a public statement went to the wayside when the CEO's letter to employees surfaced. In the letter, Munoz said everyone involved "followed established procedures," and the passenger was dragged off of the plane because he was being "disruptive and belligerent."
