June 6, 2016: Miss District of Columbia USA 2016 Deshauna Barber is named a top 10 finalist during the 2016 Miss USA pageant at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Barber went on to be named the new Miss USA.

Barber was born in December 6, 1989 in Columbus, Georgia. She lived in several states as a child due to her father’s military career. She joined the United States Army at age 17 and  attended Virginia State University and graduated with a degree in business management.

She went on to work as an IT analyst for the United States Department of Commerce, and later as a quartermaster officer and logistics commander in the Army. She earned her master’s degree in management information systems and services from University of Maryland University College.[6]

Barber is a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.
