J.R. Smith Sued for $2.5 Million after Allegedly Choking & Hitting Fan

J.R. Smith is being sued for $2.5 million by a fan who claims the Cavaliers guard caused physical injuries and emotional distress. According to the lawsuit filed by Justin Brown, he claims Smith attacked him after he declined to take a photo with him at a New York City pizza shop, last year.

The athlete was not arrested, and no charges were made by the Manhattan District Attorney following an investigation. Smith's lawyer, Alex Spiro, says they will fight the suit and believe the alleged victim is seeking financial gain. "If they have the audacity to file a frivolous claim against J.R., we will counterclaim for defamation and defend the suit aggressively," Spiro said. "This was a cash grab from the start."
