Michigan Mother Killed By Dogs In Vicious Alleged Suicide

A 22-year-old Michigan mom committed suicide by climbing over a backyard fence and getting mauled by two dogs, police said Wednesday.

Rebecca Hardy died in a hospital where she had been airlifted with “severe facial and neck injuries” after the Dec. 3 attack at a Port Huron home, according to the Port Huron Police Department.

Hardy’s loved ones in the town near the Canadian border, about 60 miles northeast of Detroit, have questioned the suicide finding.

Hardy’s family believes that she was just the unfortunate victim of a dog attack, but the medical examiner ain’t buyin’ it.

Yet Oakland County Medical Examiner Ljubisa Dragovic noted in an interview with the Detroit Free Press that Hardy had recently been kicked out of her home and had tried to kill herself before.

“These were attack dogs. These were vicious dogs in an enclosed space,” Dragovic said. “She obviously was aware of that, because she climbed over the fence to subject herself to this threat.”

Rebecca’s fiancé believes that their 18-month old daughter is reason enough that she would never commit suicide.

“I, in no way, shape or form believe that she was looking to hurt herself on that day,” he said. “She had a little girl. … She wanted us to be a family.”

It stands to reason that someone who wants to die doesn’t necessarily want to suffer through it.

In any event, R.I.P. Rebecca Hardy. That’s a bad way to go out.
