Teen Arrested Over Clock Sues School For $15 Million
Update: 11/24/2015 1:00am
The attorney for the family of Ahmed Mohamed, a Muslim teenager who was arrested earlier this year for bringing a homemade clock in a briefcase to school, is suing the Texas school district and the City of Irving for $15 million. The teen's family is also asking for an apology from MayorVan Duyne and Police Chief Larry Boyd.
"Ahmed never threatened anyone, never caused harm to anyone, and never intended to. The only one who was hurt that day was Ahmed, and the damages he suffered were not because of oversight or incompetence. The school and city officials involved knew what they needed to do to protect Ahmed's rights. They just decided not to do it," read the letter.

Ahmed Mohamed, a Muslim teenager, made national news after being arrested for bringing a homemade clock to his school, which was mistaken for a bomb, and the 14-year-old's family has hired a lawyer to get the device back. A representative for the family sent out a statement that explained they are trying "to pursue Ahmed's legal rights and regain his science project from the Irving Police Department."
In the wake of the incident Mohamed's family have pulled him from MacArthur High School in Texas over "religious persecution," and they are planning to home school him and his siblings. The teen also got an invitation from President Obama to visit the White House, and Mark Zuckerberg has also reached out to Mohamed.
Thomas Bowers and Reggie London, the family's lawyers, say they're "concerned that the proper protocol and procedures were not followed and that this will be a psychological blemish on the fourteen year old boy. The family wants justice and to ensure no family will ever have to experience what Ahmed went through again."
