Rapper YG Shot in Los Angeles Record Studio
Signed to Def Jam since 2009, YG has been a fixture in the Los Angeles rap scene since a few years before that. His debut LP, My Krazy Life, was finally released in March of last year to near-unanimous acclaim from fans and critics. Though it sported guest features by artists who hail from around the continent–Jeezy and Rich Homie Quan from Atlanta, Lil Wayne from New Orleans, Drake from Toronto–its focus was decidedly narrow. DJ Mustard’s ratchet template, a sort of mutation of the Bay’s hyphy movement, enjoyed a moment as LA’s dominant rap aesthetic, and My Krazy Life is its definitive LP. YG followed My Krazy Life with Blame it on the Streets, a movie that was accompanied by an EP. The Streets EP included a collaboration with Los Angeles legends Mack 10 and DJ Quik.
