Mykki Blanco, performance artist and rapper revealed to his fans he has been battling HIV since his diagnosis in 2011. The rapper who was allegedly arrested in Portugal in 2014 for being gay, says he didn't want to live a lie
"I've been HIV Positive since 2011, my entire career," he posted on Facebook."F*** stigma and hiding in the dark, this is my real life. I'm healthy I've toured the world 3 times but I've been living in the dark, it's time to actually be as punk as I say I am."
Blanco, who's known for his role in being a pioneer for gay rappers in music, says he wants to show his fans they don't have to be afraid for living their truths.
"No more living a lie. HAPPY PRIDE," he said in light of New York's upcoming national Pride Week. "The music industry ain't gonna like I admitted this so if a curator could help me move more into the art world that would be awesome ... thank you, hiding, being afraid of stigma is exhausting, we are souls not image's thank you brother ... thank you its just today for everyone else knowing but it's been 5 years for me, meds, garlic, limes, yogurt lol world travel. I just can't be an image living in fear having people call me brave and it being a lie. Thank you for your support."
