MADISON OFFICER WHO SHOT TONY ROBINSON IDENTIFIED AS MATT KENNY

Image: Image #3Police have released the identity of the police officer who shot and killed an unarmed teen in Madison, Wisconsin.

According to CNN, the police officer was identified as 12-year veteran Matt Kenny. Officials claim Kenny entered Robinson's home after responding to a battery call. Robinson was allegedly in the street ducking traffic and strangled a pedestrian. After entering his friend's home, the 19-year old got into a scuffle with them, resulting in Kenny forcefully entering the home. Police also confirmed the teen was indeed unarmed during the incident.

"We have to be clear about this," police chief Mike Koval said. "He was unarmed. That's going to make this all the more complicated for the investigators, the public, to accept, to understand ... why deadly force had to be used."

Robinson and Kenny's past records were also brought to light. Robinson was previously arrested for armed robbery that happened last April. In 2007, Kenny shot and killed a man. It was later determined the incident was "concluded to be a suicide by cop."

Robinson's mother, Andrea Irwin, slammed the police claiming that her son didn't deserve to die the way he did.
"My son has never been a violent person, never," she said. "To die in such a violent way baffles me. He was our caretaker and so gentle."
