Beyond A Grind! Exclusive Interview at #V2
For those who didnt catch your first interview with us. Here is a small
summary, and where you can find it.
Who is Cody Nixon?
I'm a businessman,
underground music artist advocate, as well as the C.E.O./Radio Personality of
GrindHard Radio, I'm a Boss in every sense of the word. I started out in this
game as a Video Blogger and I was blessed enough to make the transition from
that to do internet radio.
GrindHard Radio
showcases underground music artists, producers, models, poets, and anything
else that you do that you consider a grind as long as it's positive, but the
best visual that I can give you for the show is take "106 and Park" and
mix it with "Love and Hip Hop" put it on the radio and then you have
us! We are a melting pot of the best of the best! Unlike most shows you hear on
the internet the hosts and co-hosts are the fabric of the show considering
everybody on the panel are experienced underground artists except for me of
course!
How did you come up with the name GrindHard?
Grinding hard is a
way of life most folks apply that term to the everyday struggles it was the
best title that represented everyone on the show
(First off thanks for
coming back for your second Interview)
How did you come up with the concept of Reality Radio?
It actually came from
my love of Reality Television shows mostly Love & Hip Hop I wanted the show
to involve a cast instead of having just one Host and a Co-Host. I love variety
I also wanted to showcase to the listeners the struggles of being an
Underground/Indie Music Artist because
when it comes to the Entertainment business it can be all smoke and mirrors. But
I know the concept is working because now everybody is calling their shows
"Reality Radio" which is what I wanted in the first place because I'm
a trendsetter.
How has GrindHard Radio changed since the debut in 2011?
The demographics. I'm
32 years old and in the beginning we were targeting my age group and as the
years have went by we are now appealing to a much younger audience starting
with college kids which is a huge surprise to me because I'm not personally as
hip as the younger generation, and actually 4 out of the 7 cast members we have
are all in their early to mid 20's so to me that's whats' changed with the show
the most.
How does it feel being the only original cast member of
GrindHard Radio?
A true honor! I have
appeared in all 313 episodes of the show and counting, when the show first
started in March 2011 myself along with Dangerous Tactics and Trigga was on the
cast and those guys are no longer with us, however I want to go on record and
say that Virginia "SuperNova" Slim has been involved with GrindHard
Radio since the inception she was just behind the scenes and even co-hosted the
first 2 seasons of the show so she's and O.G. just as much as I am. But
nowadays internet radio shows come a dime a dozen and to still be on the SAME
show for 4 years is a blessing.
Any new business ventures coming up for 2015?
You know I try to
keep me a damn job! People can say a lot of things about me but what they can't
say is that I don't work! I get offered to do projects all the time that I turn
down, So when I do accept an offer it has to feel right to me and has to be
something that can help push me to the next level. So right now I'm just
focused on the GrindHard Radio Network brand and developing new avenues and
business ventures for the show.
What advice would you give to a person who wanted to join the
entertainment business?
I would tell them to
stay true to themselves and never be afraid to take a risk every now and then,
stay focus and learn the business aspects of it all when it comes to your
career. This business is very cutthroat people like to show they true colors every
day. You have to be very selective with who you do business with and never burn
any bridges.
GrindHard Radio has had some cast changes lately how do you
adapt to those situations?
Honestly whenever
somebody leaves the show or if we bring a new person on, you automatically
think how are the dynamics going to change? It work sometimes and sometimes it
does not, me personally I enjoy whenever we add somebody new to our circle, for
instance up until last season I was the only person on the show who was NOT a
Underground Artist and this season we added another Radio Personality instead
of an Artist by the name of CgDaPrince, so we instantly clicked besides the
fact that I've I known the dude for years. So to sum it up it can be a hit or a
miss, you just got to learn how to roll with the punches, that's how I adapt.
What do you want folks to remember about GrindHard Radio when
it is all said and done?
That we are truly for
the people, and that we really made a home and outlet for Underground/Indie
Music Artists from all over the world, to this very day you can still get a
FREE Interview on GRINDHARD RADIO without being charged! And besides what other
internet station you know that has given out $2,000 cash money to artists in
our annual freestyle battle shows since we've been on air! When you find them
please let me know!
As an Radio personality what do you look for in new music and
putting it in rotation?
Something that is
original, something that stands out and make you say damn I kind of like that
track! I'm always looking for just some good old quality music, it has to have
a certain type of swagg for me to put it in rotation no matter what genre of
music it is.
Who has been some of your favorite people to interview through
the years?
Wow that's a damn
good question, I have interviewed so many people but recently I had the honor
to interview Actress Denise Boutee' who did Tyler Perry's "Meet the
Browns" and "Why Did I Get Married" she was so humble and funny,
such a beautiful person inside and out probably one of my most favorite
interviews, oh and I can't forget Momma Dee from "Love and Hip Hop
Atlanta" was a good one too just to name a few.

things Jit.
