JASON DA HATER Album Review: LIKE VEGETABLES

Like VEGETABLES starts off with Jason coordinating students into their desk. Pile in tighter he aggressively speaks. As the album kicks off into a 16bit sounding melody. Forms of the instrumental are vibrant and poised. His voices plunges out in delegation, as he holds no punches in his tone. Welcome to "Like Vegetables" the exclusive album review only at #v2.

"Like Vegetables" EP

(Be sure to stop the music on v2 playlist located at the bottom)

The album starts off with  "Pre-Game Speech" which is delivered on topic perfectly. Its designed to sound as if he was talking to football or basketball team. He actually hits on alot of in depth topics socially and politically. What makes this unique is that it feels like the pre-games speech is for you. The production is well done, but isnt something that stands out extremely strong. Flow and production coasted comfortably and didn't break any grounds to kick off the album."Black Samaritan" comes in with a movie clip. That vibe is flushed in with the production that fits perfectly and creates a dynamic feel. On one hand you get a "Public Enemy Feel" but just more insightful. The lyrics are deep and his features:Scott X & TNT Da Mac are well placed. They fit in perfectly with his style and the direction of the song. The chorus is direct, non commercial and is meant for hiphop heads.
"Who Am I" is delivered with a lackluster production. The chorus is potently infectious, but the verse forwards itself with an forgettable delivery. His lyrics are in depth, very guiding towards the youth and self-worth. The song in general lacks to grab our attention on the other key points to make it a full package. Immediately on "Begging for Mercy" we fall in love with the production. The production delivers a total different vibe from the rest of the album. But, we are instantly shot in the heart. By a chorus that sounds broken and unguided. The verse kicks in strong and brings us right back to digging the record. His bars are more aggressive and his message is clear. Parts in the song are really deep and other feels comedic. Which he treads well on this record. Its cut off short and leaves the listener. Begging for more! The next record "BOOM BOOM" starts off perfect. It falls into this scracthy, broken, crowded, chorus which is perfectly done. The production is reminiscent of NYC 93, hard hitting, melodic drum kits. This sound and style is systematically perfect for JHater. His verse is complicated, punchlines are hard, corny and entertaining. His flow switches styles with the beat. This delivers an epic sound for the artist. It fits his style, delivery and retro persona.  Dive into "Water Mc" where the production just feels good. The sample is well placed and volumed well. It feels a little redundant at times but, is commerced by Jhater. This song is lyrically extremely strong. All his metaphors are formed around H2O and delivers it into common life. The fact that he stays on topic and manages to make so many metaphors around this. Shows Jhater strength as a MC. For bar seekers this song is gold. It manages to grasp your attention lyrically but the flow stays guided and managed in the same tone. The final song "First of all" follow similar production. It's not particularly impressive but has no faults. We love his vividness and passion in the record. His persona shines over all in this record. He raps common slang, and grants you a smile in this melodic, dark feeling record. Its not a impressive leave but, he manages to say everything that needed to be said. This album is deep on the message. Jhater manages to deliver an album with entertainment and substance. Where we find the album lacking is the variety of production. It was just to many similar sounded records to help curve the vibe of the album as a whole. Some records sounded more polished and cared for than others. We often felt confused as he would rap really in depth lyrics in the mist of comedic bars. Often throwing the vibe left on some of the songs. His vibes where often left faulted by his consitent persona. It overtook the album, and made it hard to understand his true vision and message. This album is alot "LIKE VEGETABLES" you either like them or you don't. We wanted a full course meal, and this album didn't fully deliver that. We where given a full plate of vegetables which tasted nice. But, a piece of meat and a dessert would of made this a album a much better experience.
