High Schooler Catches Backlash for Dressing as Kodak Black
Claire Kemp, 17, a high schooler from Clearwater, Florida received backlash after dressing up as Kodak Black for character day at her school. Kemp was accused of cultural appropriation with her choice of hairdo, Bantu knots, which can be traced back to West Africa.
While the teen received criticism over her hairstyle, some people felt that she didn't do anything wrong since she didn't use blackface. She addressed the situation by telling Daily Dot, "People kept saying it was racist. I had never even heard of Bantu knots until today—I thought I was just doing Kodak's hairstyle. Racism is still a big issue, but they don't know it's an issue that I care about. They don't know me or who I hang out with or what I do."
